Molded Plywood Seat

Charles Eames, Ray Eames

1942

This prototype seat was an early product of the Kazam! machine—a large wooden device with an inflatable rubber pouch used to mold plywood into compound curves. This prototype is an example of their original concept to create a comfortable seat from a single piece of plywood that didn't require upholstery.
