Wire Shell

Ray and Charles were inspired to use steel wire to create a chair by observing the way wire was welded and bent to manufacture items like sturdy and lightweight baskets and shopping carts. The shell supports a removable upholstered pad, which came in two forms, one piece and two piece, the so-called “Bikini Pad.” The Wire Shell was developed after the fiberglass Armchair but before the fiberglass Side Chair.
