Outstanding Town and Country Motel, Lincoln, Nebraska

In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s administration developed a proposal for an interstate highway system to connect the lower 48 states, eventually resulting in the passage of the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956. The interstates not only resulted in an all-freeway system, with nationally unified standards for construction and signage, but also led to a new type of guest lodging—the motel. This motel based in Lincoln, Nebraska, showed off modern amenities and commitment to comfort with Eames fiberglass chairs and Greta Grossman Grasshopper floor lamps.
